Great Beer Starts with Clean Water

The Quinte Source Protection Authority and Committee are thrilled to partner with Prince Eddy’s Brewing Company to promote drinking water source protection in the Quinte area. The Quinte Source Protection Plan’s first policy (Policy G-1) emphasizes the importance of education and outreach regarding source water protection – and protecting local sources of drinking water is at the heart of what the Quinte Source Protection Authority does.

With the help of Prince Eddy’s Brewing Company in Prince Edward County, we are raising awareness from source to sip about the importance of protecting our drinking water sources.

The Eddy's Export - Euro Style Lager will feature the slogan “Great Beer starts with Clean Water” and will prompt consumers to learn more about drinking water source protection.

Why Source Water Protection Matters

DYK? Approximately half of Quinte area residents rely on groundwater sources (wells connected to aquifers), while the other half rely on surface water (intakes from lakes, rivers, the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario).

All of our drinking water sources are vulnerable to pollution and overconsumption. Protecting these sources improves the quality of life for local families and supports sustainable communities now and into the future.

Protecting sources of drinking water can:

• Protect public health;
• Protect the environment;
• Ensure a long-term supply of clean water; and
• Avoid the cost and need to clean up contaminated water sources, or find new safe sources. 

Goals of Our Partnership

This innovative partnership brings together source water protection and craft brewing to:

• Educate the public about where their drinking water comes from and why it is important to protect it.
• Encourage individuals and businesses to take action to protect their sources of drinking water.
• Highlight the link between clean drinking water and great beer.
